SpringbANK HILL Elegance
Why they came
When this Springbank Hill family called us, they weren’t sure what the process was like to work with a designer. They had gone through the process of building their custom home and renovating their basement on their own, and they were looking forward to renovating with a designer’s touch.
Their kids are getting older, and it was time to update the home to fit their new stage in life and their current tastes.
- Add a beverage station to the kitchen. They are coffee drinkers (like us!)
- Update their dark cabinets to match their calm, modern aesthetic.
- Add statement elements. They did not want anything that would appear cookie-cutter or the same as their neighbours.
- Improve storage and functionality of the laundry/ mudroom
- Update the fireplace without taking up additional space inside the living room.
- Consider space for built-in audio systems as the family uses the living room space to enjoy music and community rather than television.
- Update powder room
- Replace trim/ baseboards & paint throughout
- Refinish or replace hardwood flooring
How We Helped
- Updated the layout of the kitchen to add better flow and functionality.
- Designed custom, modern millwork in two warm tones.
- Had a custom bronze hood fan manufactured for over their gas range.
- Added a beverage station with a panel-ready wine fridge and freezer/ fridge combination drawers. The slab surrounding this station is breathtaking. Be sure to take a close look!
- Rather than stopping the backsplash halfway up the wall, we added a dramatic full-wall stone slab behind the kitchen sink.
- Kitchen accessories galore: full-length pullout pantry, appliance garage, spice rack drawers, baking sheet dividers, angled drawers to fit long serving utensils, separate recycling and trash pullouts, and blind corner cabinet pulls.
- Vertical wooden slats offer a gentle separation between the kitchen and the kitchen nook.
- Built-in custom floating bench in the kitchen nook with luxurious, high-traffic fabrics.
- We couldn’t cantilever out, so we needed to come up with a fireplace design that wouldn’t take as much space as the old fireplace. We custom-designed the fireplace with warm, light Italian porcelain tile surround, lime plaster over mantel, floating shelves and valance lighting that creates an open, welcoming space.
- Created a showstopper powder room that will impress all of their guests. The backlit mirror gives the illusion that it is full-length behind the floating vanity, the floating vanity includes an open shelf for towels and cloths, and the vinyl wallpaper is a bold, fun choice that is also very functional and easy to clean in a bathroom.
- We removed the corner pass-through pantry from the kitchen. It previously led to the mudroom/ garage and offered no real benefit to the family. We replaced it with more functional millwork both in the kitchen and the laundry room.
- Designer lighting throughout. Including under-mounted lighting, backlit lighting, valance lighting and designer pieces.
- Replaced the hardwood floors.
- Replaced stairs and railings.
- Painted and replaced trim throughout.
