Layout, layout, layout! If there’s a word for this renovation, it’s that. This midcentury home in Springbank was renovated inside and out, top to bottom.
The kitchen was where the sitting room is now, and the sitting room is where the kitchen was. The den is now a luxurious, functional dog bath, laundry, and mud room combo. The primary bedroom and ensuite are where the two spare upstairs bedrooms are.
The kitchen and formal dining room were very quartered off from the flow of the rest of the home. This family entertains very informally and loves to interact with their guests as they prepare delicious feasts for them either in their baker’s kitchen or on the barbecue. Bringing food out to the barbecue meant trapesing through the sitting room; arms loaded wasn’t very functional. Now the eat-in kitchen has the perfect flow to the deck.
The primary bedroom was on the front of the house, but the Springbank Rocky Mountain view was on the back. The kids are nearly out of the house, and it’s time for mom and dad to have a proper ensuite, walk-in closet and a view of why they chose this property location!
The client also had a dream of adding a custom dog wash. We had such fun figuring out how to make this dog wash add to the look of the mudroom and remain functional. The client can come in from playing with the dog in the yard and put them straight into the dog wash to rinse their paws. No more dirty paw print towels lining the floor.
We loved playing with the midcentury features of this home. It’s always important to allow the house to speak to you, even when making drastic layout changes like we did here. This Springbank home is perfectly midcentury and now!
